Hi everyone

Ive got a '99 dak r/t and just finished installing a 2600 stall converter and vb.

Im ready to install my tranny cooler but know little about it. Ive got a Hayden HD cooler kit that comes with 3' hose, brass fittings, and ties.

If you've done this install please let me know exactly how you did it, any advice/info is appreciated! Thanks

It's really very simple. You'll see two fluid lines coming from the trans to the factory cooler, which is inside the radiator (making a heat exchanger, not a cooler). You just plumb the new cooler in line with the old one.

Now, there's a lot of controversy over where to place the new cooler. Some say before the heat exchanger, some say after. You need to remember that the trans needs to get up to a certain temp to operate correctly. Off the top of my head, I'm thinking 175*.

If the new cooler is after the exchanger and you live in Ontario, your trans will never get up to proper temp in the winter. So the oil should go through the new cooler first, and then the exchanger.

OTOH, if you live in Yuma, AZ, that's not a concern. So you should put the cooler after the exhanger for maximum efficiency.

If you live somewhere in the middle, you can always use an insulated cover over the cooler in the winter to retain heat.
