Subject: 4.7 RC catbacks??

I have a 2000 4x4 4.7 Auto RC. What companies make direct bolt-on cat-backs? I have been to the flowmaster site and saw a cat-back that on the first page says only the 5.2 and 5.9, but when you click on the exhaust system info page it shows a blue print type pic and says V8 engine Dakotas. So it will or will not fit the 4.7. I know that the 4.7 (SOHC) is a totally different V8 compared to the of 5.2 and 5.9. If any one has any info on cat-backs for the 4.7 4wheel drive Regular Cab I would love you to share with me. (brands, prices, sounds, power gains, ect) Speakin of power gains shouldnt all cat-backs give you some sort of power gain? I have heard alot of people say that certin exhausts take power away? Dont companies make cat-backs to improve power not robb it?? Thanks for any help you can give!!!

The flowmaster cat back will fit. Jba, mbrp also make a kit also. Go to www.truckperformance.com Type in your info for direct fit. I also heard that most club cab cat backs work.

I had a muffler shop with a mandrel tube bender build me a 2 1/2" dual setup for my '01 4.7 RC 2wd, using a Flowmaster 70, which reduces cab noise without hurting performance. The exhaust sound is similar to the 50 series. A small "L" bracket was welded to the inside left frame rail to push the spare tire to the right slightly for extra clearance. Be sure to help the air intake side to compound the exhaust benefit. My custom catback was $300 with stainless 3" tips.

Thanks for the ideas guys, keep them comming. As for 01Motorsport's soulution for the sparetire I belive I would have to drop the spare completely. I have the optional 31x10.5s on my sport and theres no way to run duals with it takein up all the room. I was thinking of maybe tryin to fab my own system. I would go with a single in dual out magnaflow of flowmaster and try to route the dual pipes out before the rear tire. Anyone try this before. The only thing really stopping me is that after I buy all the peices I need to complete this little project I will spend almost as much as the flowmaster catback.

I have a 2000 Dak 4X4 with the 31" spare tire and with duals on my truck exiting on a 45'deg angle. There's more than enough room for duals to work and still keep your spare in place.
Here's a pic,

I'm running a Magnaflow muffler with custom bent 2.25" SS pipes and 3" SS tips, it was worth every penny for the sound and power increase!!

If I was going to have a system fabbed for my 4.7, 5spd man. QC, which I'm doing soon,

I sure wouldn't do a dual cat back. I'm coming off the headers to a H or X, to true duals.

Before you get on my case, I understsand that in some areas, you can't get around emissions, etc.

Love the exhaust Anthony. How much did it run you with the manderal bent pipes. Love the color to, same as mine. Do you thing if you ran larger tail pipes you would of lost torque? Do you still have your factory cat? I read some were on this site that if you keep ur factory cat you do not have to worry about backpressure.

Thanks Andrew

I live in Toronto, Canada I got the Magnaflow SS muffler and SS tips from a relative from the Magnaflow family for dirt cheap. All the custom bent piping from the cat to the tips are SS piping everything in total cost me $700(cdn) and it's not mandrel bent. Everything from the cat to the motor is still factory. I should have gone with 3.5" tips instead of the 3" it would have looked a little beefer. Which wouldn't have any affect on performance.

But like TexasTodd said, if you don't have an emission program in your state, go true duals!!
I'm screwed because we have it here, but the program will be dropped next year. Then I will convert the rest of the system to a true dual setup.

I have more info and pics on my site if your interested.

Phil, only your exhaust system warranty would be voided
