Subject: EMMISSION LEAK

Message:
My check engine light came on last Monday, so I went to Auto Zone and they came up with a code 0442 and 0455 which the man told me it was most likely my gas cap. I bought a new gas cap and had the codes reset/turned off and drove it for 3 days the light came back on so I took my truck to dodge and they tell me that I have a large emmission leak but cant tell where, so they need to do a smoke test for 76.00 to see where it is. Im poor cant afford the test and then to fix the problem, any one have any help? I also have to have an Inspection sticker in Oct

How old's your truck ? Many are not aware there's a federal emissions warranty for something like 75 or 80,000 miles; you could be covered.

you probably have a cracked or loose hose somewhere in the evap system. type in p0442 in the search engine and you will learn all about this. possible easy fix btw. mine was split just before the canister, just cut it back an inch. could be where it goes through the firewall. common problem, they put cheap hoses on these things oem, good luck!

Dodge should not be charging you to fix this - let them know you are aware of the federal emissions warranty.

Well thanks to spilot I found a hose cracked really bad and took my truck to AutoZone last night and the man helped me replace it, so hopefully that was my problem... Thanks again
