I have 98 Dak with 5.2 & 145K on it. It was recommended not to use LUCAS oil stabilizer in my engine. Is there any additive that would be beneficial? Should I use an Engine cleaner (the stuff you run for 5 min before changing oil) in my truck before an oil change. If so What kind do you recommend????????????

I would at least do an Auto-Rx cleaning and then run a maintenance dose. Go to Auto-Rx.com and follow directions for vehicles with over 100k. Auto-Rx will slowly and gently clean your motor, ring packs, and recondition your seals. Good stuff!

Oil additives in modern oils are a waste of money. A quality oil - dino or synth - changed at whatever interval makes you happy is really all you need.

Not true. Today's engines build alot more sludge than engines in the past(especially the Dodge 4.7). You need to do some sort of sludge removal in time or all the oil passages in your engine will get clogged. Most oil change places can hook you up to a reverse flush machine. I think it costs about $100 to get done.

Amsoil - Oil Additive - Auto Rx - Amzoil

jeremiah2360 and Timberwolf are BOTH correct.

Todays engines are more compact, are asked to give maximum performance, and therefore run hotter than before. A GOOD synthetic will prevent problems from developing.

Hmmmmm, lets see ... what synthetic oil do you think I should recommend.

Heh Heh

Oh Yes ............................ Amsoil!

Engine Flush and they also offer a transmission flush

Auto-Rx (www.auto-rx.com)

If you have an older engine and are showing signs of sludging ... or don't know the maintenance history ... you should use Auto-Rx.

IMHO, it is the best flush on the market.

From my personal knowledge and per their website, Auto-Rx is a synthetic, biodegradable, highly effective, safe metal cleaner. (Hmmm ... there is that word synthetic again for all the non-believers in synthetic products.)

Auto-RX is gentle, slow acting, and thorough. I know many vehicle owners that have used it and no one has reported any problems.

Auto-RX is inert in your oil,it does not negatively affect any aspect of your host oil except to clean and disburse crud to the oil filter. There are no negatives associated with it's use. Auto-RX was developed as an alternative to solvents for a slower non hazardous alternative that does not deplete, but ends up disbursing the crud in a very small form ... small enough to flow by bearings etc.

If anyone decides to use this Auto-RX product (For the record ... I do not sell it) FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS RELIGIOUSLY.

I wish that I sold it ... but it is a proprietary product.

Amen to the "do NOT use a "quick flush"." It breaks up large deposits quickly and disperses them throughout the engine (including the bearings)

LUCAS in the Oil is fine. DO NOT use the Tranny products! It was a nightmare in my '93 Dak with the ATF+3. It took 3 flushes to get it back shifting properly!

Glad to see your still around giving good advice Steven.

Dump every product you can in to the motor, the most expensive products work the best.
