a 3.58" stroked crank in a std bore 318 a 344ci,
.030 over bore is a 349ci

a 4.00" stroked crank in a std bore 318 a 384ci,
.030 over bore is a 390ci

so on and so on

it,s a stroked motor you,ll have good tq and hp,
it depends on the compression, cam, intake, heads etc on how much power the motor will make

enrique, if you're asking if you can get 408 ci out of a 318 block, the answer is no. You wont be able to swing a long throw crank and you cant bore the cylinders out enough of the 318 to get 408. Hope this helps.

You cannot bore enough to get 408, but you can swing the 4 inch stroker crank. As with the 340 and 360 block, the 318 block will need some clearancing (grinding) in the lower block to allow for crank clearance.

Yeah, but there's more to it than just dropping in a 4-inch crank. It'll bolt right in, but other mods are required to make this work. This is why several places sell stroker "packages" that include the necessary pieces. With increased stroke, your piston will travel farther. If you don't use shorter rods (or custom short pistons), the engine will not work. Going from a 3.31 stroke to a 4.0 will have the pistons slamming into the heads without the shorter rods or pistons. Again, as stated, the lower parts of the bores will require notching since the rods will deflect a further distance as the crank rotates.

My 318 stroker kit (390c.i.) came from Hughes Engines. www.hughesengines.com, I purchased the complete rotating assembly, crank, rods, pistons and all the rings and bearings. These guys really know there stuff. I'm not saying they're the only guys that do, but I'm really happy with the service and the parts I got from them.

I purchased a ported TB from Hughes and am happy with their service as well. The have a core exchange if your TB qualifies, and it all went well for me.

vern, regarding the bore information you listed... I'm wondering how to determine the information you posted based upon the stock information?

Displacement: 5.2L/318 cid
Bore x Stroke: 4.00 x 3.58
Compression ratio: 9.1:1

Also, is there a way to figure out how the compression ratio would be affected?
Does this affect the wear on the engine much? Do the heads need to be beefed up? I imagine the volume of the cylinders would increase quite a bit, which would require larger intake and exhaust ports?
Basically, what I'm getting at, is how do you determine the requirements of the engine based upon a longer stroke?
Do you have a good URL for reading?
Thanks,
Mark
