My 2000 V8 Dakota just started revving higher than normal for a longer period of time than normal. Any suggestions?

Revs up to about 1800rpm for about 4-7 seconds. It never did this before and I don't like what it might do when it gets cold.

mmm.. maybe your IAC (idle air contol) valve needs a cleaning. you can also try resetting the PCM

check out speedtweaks for how-to instructions for the above mentioned procedures...
