Any ideas on how to get your 60' times down??? I'm still running around 2.2-2.4. Which is absolute crap considering i have a kenne bell blower on it. I bought a set of mickey thompsons and they did not help. I try launching around 1600 rpm. I have a quad cab 4.7 auto. My best time is 14.7. NOt too happy with that either. ANy suggestions???

What happens at launch ?
Tire spin ?
Bog ?
Whats the stall speed of your converter ?
What kind of rear gears ?
Any wheel hop ?
Are you running a line loc ?
etc, etc, etc

I'm running the stock 3.55's. The torque converter is stock... I'm not getting tire spin now with the slicks. Not getting serious wheel hop, a little..... not running a line lock. I also have the LSD. It does seem to bog a bit right off the start which i don't understand. I'd like to get more wieght transfer..... some of the other trucks i see run tend to hunch back as they launch but i don't. I've lowered the truck and have nittro drop shocks all around. SOunds like i need to spend MORE money????

Maybe some tuning issues. I have a vortech, 3.90 gears, but my truck weighs 4350 lbs and my 60 foots are 2.2-2.35 !!! Keep in mind I am only making 2-3 psi right off the line too compared to your full whatever psi. My best time too is 14.3@96.5 which is what it runs almost every single time.

In order to get a good 60' time with a fairly heavy vehicle (truck) you need to get the motor rpm into the range were it's making good torque before launching and keeping it there after launch.
this usually requires a high stall converter (3500+) and some kind of tranny brake ( or foot brake with a line loc).
Also to keep the motor in the rpm power range after launching would require minimum 4.10 gears with 4.56 being preferable.
This should improve your 60' but will make it a beast for normal day to day driving because of the high stall converter and 4.56s.

I agree with the comment that possibly the tune is a bit rich at the lower RPM area. Have you dynoed it to check your air/fuel curve?

I run an ATI set-up on my 2003 CC R/T and cut 60' times of 1.9 - 1.95 with a stock tranny and convertor.

I have dynoed (265hrs, 317lbs/ft) but no air fuel ratio. I'm thinking on going to see Bob Kennedy in Niagra falls. It's pretty hopeless to find any one up here (southern ontario canada) that can actually play with the computer for a good tune. I'm probably going to get his water/alcohol injection and try running 9lbs of boost. I have no issues with detonation right now so hopefully with the injection it won't be a problem. I drive my truck everyday so i don't want anything on there that will mess with that ie high stall converter. After that i may look at some new gears.......... MORE MONEY.... yeah

If your getting some wheel hop off the line, I would suggest some traction bars, or at least spring clamps on the front to get rid of the wheel hop.

Try getting into it more and earlier? I'm running a '97 5.2 that pulls 15.4-15.6, and I consistantly get 2.2 60' time (best so far is a 2.229 on my best of 15.42 run). On that run, I launched at 2000 RPM, got into it pretty hard early on, had some wheel spin, but it still launched good. Oh yeah, 3.55 gears here and weighed about 4,200 lbs with me, and that was with BFG T/A's 245/60R15's (worn at that), no convertor, no LSD, etc. Just engine/exhaust bolt-on mods.

When you roll into thre pre-stage, stage beams.
Turn on the pre-stage first then roll forward just enough to break the stage beam. This is called a shallow stage and gives the roll out of the diameter of the front tire before the beam is actually made. This will decrease your 60' time as you get more speed before time starts. Deep staGE is when you move forward to the point that the pre-stage light is of. When you hit the loud pedal you will have a faster reaction time.

If you are not having traction problems smaller diameter tires will increase your gear ratio cheaper than a gear and not a permanent thing.

doesn't mopar make a 2400 stall converter for your tranny. i'd look into it. much better off the line than stock 1800 stall and not a bear to drive like a 3600.

Ken, I've got the same truck ('97 5.2L, 4x4?) and I'm wondering what mods you've done to yours? What is your 1/4 time? Once I get my last couple of changes on (injectors, PCM) I want to take it out and see what I can do. I'm just curious what to expect.
Thanks!

it seems like when I dynoed my 4.7, the torque was way up at like 2000 rpm's..

what size mickey's are you running now? if you bought 26" diameter, your gearing should be pretty close to a 3.9XX

I think a torque converter will be needed though, but a 2600 should be enough.. and definitely get some traction bars... if your not spinning, weight transfer isn't much of an issue

Mcarthey,

First, my best time is 15.42 @ 86? MPH

Truck: 97 CC SLT 5.2L Auto 2wd

MODS (When I did that run, pretty much the order I put them on as well):
Quick-D intake (sort-of a more expensive homebrew - uses stainless steel)
Hypertech PCM
Gibson Cat-back
Carsound Cat
F&B 50mm TB
Accel Ignition System
Crower 1.7 Rockers
M-1 Intake Manifold
Positive Performance Headers

other misc: Autolite 3923's, 180 t-stat, JBA 9mm wires

My first run ever, was with the Hyptertech and Quick-D, which I pulled off a 15.85 I believe, and racing weight of 4,380.

I went to the track several times after that, with the different mods, but didn't really get any improvement until I put on the headers and M-1 intake manifold

With those mods listed above, I pulled off a 15.65, I think with high 2.2 - low 2.3 60' times. Racing weight after my first time at track was around 4,250 as I pulled my speakers/amp out.

Lsst time I went to the track, I decided to start shifting manually 1-2, 2-D as I wasn't happy with the shift points. It was shifting at 4,800 RPM's, and going into 3rd, I thought it would do better with letting it run another few hundred RPM's. That night, I got in 3 runs, and the times were like 15.49, 15.46 and 15.42, with MPH within .5 on all runs, 2 of them being with .05 of each other. So, I got my 1/4 down each run. The last run was the only run that I spun the wheels off the line, and for probably most of the first 60', but it's still my best 60' to-date. Haven't made it back to the track since then. I don't know if the manual shifting is the reason for the faster times, as it was a cool night, so that may of had something to do with it. I want a chance to make a couple more runs this season, haven't been since last fall.
