Engine speed sensor might be bad, or perhaps the tach is malfunctioning. Does it do this in every gear or just up top?

the gear or speed doesn't matter, if you gradually bring up the rpms it is fine only when you stomp on it does it kick in .

Do you get any codes for the computer? Just to make sure, goto your autozone and get it scanned for free. Then come back and report.

You could have something wrong with your fuel system. Who knows, failing fuel pump.

Just wondering, does your engine shut off completely, or does it feel like it's choking above 3,500 rpms. The reason i ask, if it feels like it's being choked. It could be a bad catalatic converter. If, it is, it will get worse, you will only be able to drive very short distances before your car will stall. Then after a while, when the pressure is released. Then you will be able to start it and run it again. Your engine will also rev very slow after some pressure build up. You could be at WOT and the rpms move up slow.

If, it is your cat, it's still under warranty. I suggest getting a hayes manual and follow the steps to see if it's your cat.
