Subject: Will a 4.7TB spacer fit w/ a F&B 70mm TB
IP: Logged

Message:
Despite what some will say, I am interested in a TB spacer, but want to know if it will fit under my F & B 70mm TB on my '02 4.7. I figure, for under $100, if it increases torque by 2-4, and increase gas mileage by 0.5 - 1.5, then it is worth it. Any insight? Thanks

Vince

Do a search on this site for TB spacers. Everyone hates them and says they don't work. I read somewhere they might possibly just maybe work on the 4.7L, but I'm not willing to shell out $100 for sumthin that may or may not work. I wouldn't bother with it.

TB spacers are designed for carb motors, for better fuel and air mixture. Which will make more power. In a fuel injection motor there's no benefits because it's still just air once passed the TB. That's why they're nice paper weights.

Even if throttle bodies spacers worked, and you could bolt a throttle body spacer up to the 70 mm thottle body, it would still be worthless because the bore is smaller than stock throttle body size.

I have done quite a bit of reading about the TB spacers on this site. What I have found is a number of people that say that it actually does work on the 4.7, but not necessarily on other engines. I was thinking that anything that makes air enter and exit the engine more efficiently is bound to help out, at least a little. I mean, what do you want for $100? If I get 1 more mpg, then I think that is pretty good for $100. I was just thinking that my F&B TB might not bolt up right, or the fact that it is 70mm might be too big to line up correctly, and I'd actually be suffocating the air flow slightly.

Don't do it.

Think about it: What good does it do when you move the TB farther away from the intake manifold? none. It is the same logic as putting your TB between the air filter housing and the airhat.

The spacers ONLY work on Carb engines. The purpose is to give the air and fuel more room to mix evenly and completely. With fuel injected engines (like the 4.9 and 5.7), the fuel and air mix IN THE CYLINDER, thus negating the point of the spacer. Other than engine lag (which can be put into the computer at initial programming), it doesn't matter how far away the TB is from the manifold.

I am going to also address the concept of "swirling" air. With the way the intake manifold is cornered, the spin of the air as it enters the cylinder is worthless. The sales techniques that are used to demonstrate the flow of air utilize water as a visual aide, not air. They show two coke bottles joined at the tops and spin water to show how well "spinning" helps movement. BS. They are demonstrating with swirling apples while selling you a product that spins oranges.

A TB spacer will help you suck in more air to your engine as much as putting a midget under your hood and having him blow into your engine.

How can I argue with that? I guess I'll pass on it, and I'll concentrate on changing out my Y-pipe or maybe an underdrive pulley.
