Hey guys, I don't have to much money to spend but here it is anyway.

I have a high mileage 92 Dakota CC w/ 5.2L 2wd. I'm trying to find some performance mods on a budget. If I can I'd like to do most of the work myself though I still have a lot to learn.

I can get 25% off any chrysler/mopar parts and I have a thing about using OEM parts. Right now I'm going to get performance headers and then dual exhaust with high flow cats (absolutley no catbacks.)

Does anyone have any other suggestions in cheap mods. My main goal is to run in the 14's in the 1/4 but I have my doubts. I just need to beat my friends electra 2-2-5 with a 350 and my other friends 6 cyl. Ranger. I don't really have any worries but better safe than sorry. Thanks.

I have a 92 4x4 with 5.2 with 100,000. You already have several things going for ya, the larger exhaust manifolds, here are somethings you could that are no cost or low cost: ON the intake side get a K and N filter for your air cleaner, you can take your v8 throttle body and modify it; cut down the air horns, remove the torque step above the throttle plates, port match the intake manifold to the heads. On the exhaust side: replace your muffler with a higher flowing muffler and increase the size from 2.5 inch to 3in. This cost me about 150.00 dollars and was the single largest increase in power I noticed. Go with a brass cap inserts on the distributor cap and rotor, low resistance spark plug wires, use autolite ap3923 plugs gapped out to .045" and index the plugs. If you go with a 180 degree thermostat, the pcm will make a little more power. Also consider doing the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) mod, and do the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) mod also.

You have exactly the same truck that I do. 187k on it. I have owned it since 92, but did my first mod in June/July of this year, with the exception of the 180 t-stat. I put on an M1 to eliminate the belly pan gasket leak problem I had. Following that I put on a K&N filtercharger in the stock airhat. Replaced the PCM with a Mopar performance one I bought used for $50. Removed the block plate on the air intake hose behind the grille. Relocated the IAT sensor to the intake tube. Ported/polished my TB. Autolite 3923 plugs. It is an entirely different truck at this point. I still need to replace the muffler, and I am considering headers. However, the 92-93 Dakotas had less restrictive headers, so I would leave that mod for last since they already flow pretty good stock.

I am going to put a complete MSD6AL ignition in this weekend, then will remove the stock clutch fan and replace with an electric one. Evenually I will mess with a cam and roller/rockers, but that will probably wait until the engine dies and I replace it with a 360.
