I'm new to the list. I have a 99 Dakota Sport with the 3.9 in her.
Well my lease just came up and it came time decide what to do. I was
20,000km over my limit, so I was going to buy it out. The only
problem was that I didn't want it. I don't like the power of the 3.9
and it didn't have power windows or locks.... so I decided to buy a
new 2002.
I just ordered my new truck "Sport Plus" with the 26c package.
Now here is my question...
What kind of mileage can I expect from the 4.7?
I was getting 400km/tank with my 3.9.
Also... how much worse is the 5.9? (the dealer is willing to upgrade
me to the R/T group for free)...

The Rt is awsome but terible in gas mileage, the 360 is a gas hog, I like the 4.7 in mine, i get 315 miles to the 22 gal tank, and still have a couple gallons left. You will like the 4.7 it is an awsome motor, if you can get the 3;92 posi rear gears.. better way better than the 3;55 ratio.

R/T upgrade for free....very tempting, inlcudes
3:92 gears, posi, and 17" wheels, and
lowering, I am just not a fan of the 5.9....I liked
the 4.7 just that much more to opt not to get
the R/T.

Not very many mods out yet for the 4.7, but
they will have just as many as the 5.9 within
the next couple of years.

Kinda my feelings on the 5.9 also. It's an old work horse, but it IS old. No to mention the 17" tires would cost a fortune come tire change time.

I am happy with mine, '01 QC 4.7 Auto. I can get about 340-360 miles out of the 24 gallon tank on mine. Very fun truck. Only mods as of now are a cat-back, air-aid kit and tb spacer. Am getting ready to start on other mods I'm reading about on this site,IAT,clutch fan, etc. Just ran out of warranty so now it's time to get crazy with it.

I don't know if this helps : I always set my trip odometer at every fill up to track fuel economy. Right now it is reading 212 km, and sitting at half a tank. I expect roughly in total 424 - 430 km on one tank of fuel. Oh yeah, my truck is a 1995 Dak 5.2L

I am sure the 4.7L will net a higher fuel economy, probablly 500 km on one tank of fuel (just guessing).
