Subject: will removing the muffler hurt my 4.7?

just put on my flowmaster super 40. i ,of course,decided to crank it up w/ no muffler.BITCHIN'! sounds real good w/ muffler but was wondering,will no muffler hurt the motor due to no back pressure? what do y'all think.

If you haven't changed the size of the pipes from stock, it shouldn't hurt anything. If they're bigger, you might not have enough exhaust gas velocity to completely clear the end of the pipes before it cools when you're tooling around town. At higher RPMs you would probably be alright, though.

You'll be ok removing the muffler if you don't mess with the exhaust from the cat to the manifold. Actually, without the muffler the engine breathes easier and less energy is wasted trying to expell the exhaust. You'll be fine - I just put a muffler-free system from my cat back and it sounds awesome and my truck hauls.
