I have currently the flowmaster 40 series on my 94 3.9 dakota would this be a good swap for the new 99 318 dakota or is there a much better or preffered sounding muffler out there for not a million dollars( i mean expensive) but really...cause now i have a v8 and i have choices on which muffler would sound the best but i need a few opinions....?

Thanx!

Did/do you like the 40 series flowmaster?

My advise would be if you liked it stick with it - if not try something else.

I currently have the 4.7 with a 40 series on it and love it.

I have a 99 5.2 and I also have a 40 series. It sounds great! It has a great tone at idle and is really mellow at cruising speed. It opens up great under acceleration and then levels off so it isn't annoying. I love it, I would highly recommend it.

I have a 2000 QC 4.7L auto. I recently installed a Pace Setter turbo muffler to replace my original rusted out muffler. I had the muffler sitting new in the box on my garage shelf for about 12 years! While changing my oil I noticed that my muffler had a big crack in it so since the rest of the pipe was fine I decided to use the Pace Setter as a temporary fix(which happened to be the exact same size!). Turns out I really like the sound AND the slightly better power. On top of that I'm getting 1 to 2 MPG better! The sound is just slightly deeper than the stock muffler(the rotted out muffler that is. I don't remember what it sounded like new) and it doesn't resonate in the cab. It reminds me of my friends old Camaro that the muffler was originally for. Not bad for a total of $5.00 in clamps. I think you can get the same muffler today for about $45.00.

I kept the single in and single out. I don't like duals because they don't make any difference in HP or mileage unless they are true duals with a crossover pipe. So they just make more nois when they are only dual beyond the muffler. Some people like that sound, and that is ok, I just don't. Mine sounds killer with the single, so why spend more for duals?
