If your frugal with the intake, then a CAI and Mopar PCM should liven it up nicely! The R/T has a 1/2 decent exhaust, slightly better than what a normal Dakota has, but not as good as the aftermarket ones, but a Catback exhaust will set you back $300 (good one) easy, with very little HP gain.

For under $500, you're going to have to weigh your options. I think the Mopar PCM is going to run ya $360 or so (maybe get one off ebay cheap??). That's going to leave you $120-$140 for a CAI, which, well, good luck. Better off building a CAI yourself, which is easy to do for under $100, just won't look as nice as an aftermarket one, unless you know what you're doing and have access to a machine shop and nice piping. Oh yeah, warning - with the Mopar PCM, will most likely need to run 93 octane, otherise you'll get spark knock real bad, which isn't good for the engine.

Knew they didn't for the 4.7's, but they don't for the 5.9????

ahhh, well, you can go with a hypertech, or get a custome flash (places like krcperformance.com, etc)... But that's gonna eat up most of the $500, but the flash is said to be better than a Mopar PCM either way..... Hypertech would be a step down

Check this place out:

Sam can help you find something worth your $500. I'd go with an intake and computer flash.

Did you see the thread about the Hypertech, 5.9, and dyno graphs?

This guy got nothing from him hypertech, search for it if you want, I'm sure it's there.

It's a mixed bag with the hypertech, depends on your setup, etc. On my mostly stock 97 5.2, it helped several tenths in the 1/4. However, now that I have headers, rockers, M1 intake, 50mm TB, etc, doesn't really seem to be helping all that much. So, think it depends on your mods.. But I picked mine up for $75 used, so got a good deal on it

My superchips gave me 2 tenths in the 1/4 with just a fastman throttle body. (stock everything else, including stock intake)

Cold Air Intake allows cooler air to make it to the engine (increase air density, PCM picks up on this, adds fuel = more power), also allows for more air to be allowed into the intake so the engine isn't losing HP by having to suck in the air.
The PCM advances your timing (cannot do it by turning distributor), raises/eliminates speed limiter, raises RPM limiter (these vary on what make PCM you have, etc)

Change gears, that will use up your 5 bills but it will get you the most bang. 180 t-stat, IAT sensor relocate, crank posistion sensor timing increase and low restriction air filter = $ 50

Would it be possible to throw a 318 manual tranny into the 360? It may deliver more power to the rear wheels that way too. Would the bellhousing be the same? Even if you would have to rebuild it for the torque difference it seems it would be a good upgrade. Where could I find out more about this. Please email me with a responce. My email is blankie22@yahoo.com. Thanks

Justin, there is no Mopar PCM avail. But a custom flash might be a posibility. Do a search on this site to find where/who/why/how much.
