Subject: 2000 4.7 4x4 oil in O2 sensor

I recently had this problem, and read about others with the same problem. Want to share my experience and fix.

Kept getting engine code p0171 (lean air fuel mixture), truck burning gas bad and black exhaust.

Here was the root cause:

Defective power steering pressure switch leaks oil into the wiring harness which ends up in the upstream O2 sensor wiring connector.

I replaced the ps switch, removed the O2 sensor which was loaded with oil in the connector and used used electric contact cleaner to get rid of the oil. Don't buy an O2 sensor (70.00) unless you need too, try cleaning the original up first with some to brake clean or carb cleaner.

Truck running like a champ again!
