My Dak is in the shop for some body work(Dont Ask) and so i have a '04 Chevy Silverado. After driving that for a week i have decided to never buy one of those hunk of junks. It has terrible throttle resonse time and not much power. The ride is awful for a truck that only has 4700 miles on it. The gas miles are good but thats about the only thing. What were the designers thinking when they roled this one out. What ever all I have to say is MOPAR or NO CAR!!

i don't know about throttle response, cause a buddy of mine has a 03 silv and we was going do a two lane hiway and we decided to see which was better. We was going about 60 and on 3 we punched it. I hate to say, the silv blew me away. unless yours is a 4.7L (heard they are better acceleration than the other motors). i have a 5.2L and my buddy had the 5.3L.

bad dakota, that is one of the silverados strong points. their second gear goes to about 80 and that 5.3 runs to 6000 rpms. our trucks do not have a passing gear like that. try again at a stop light. he he. i would NEVER DARE try to race a 5.3 or a 6.0 from a 60 mph roll. however ho cams/intake are on the way and we'll have a different story.

2000 4.7 4x4 awd
air intake, jet chip
on the way: ho cams/intake

My 4.7 4X4 3.55's auto gets to about 80+ with 2nd gear.

The Vortec, form my experience, seems to be like Honda's V-Tec (not really) but there doesn't seem to be much off the line, but over 4k RPM's they pick up pretty good. Worthless for towing or going up hills. I waste them all the time going up big hills.

yea, i would race him at a stop light, but i put on my 32" swampers the other day and now i have lost a lot of my power that i had. but i can't wait to get me k&n fipk, programmer, and tb spacer. Plus now that i have the tires on, my MPG's when down from 16 to 14 and the average when from 13.4 to 11.0. THAT SUCKS but does anyone have any other ideas on how i can get my MPG's at least back to where they were. thanks

bad dakota, how heavy are the rims and tires compared to stock, i know the tires are heavier but how about those rims. losing (or gaining) 10 lbs rotating weight on your wheels is worth four times that sitting in the bed of your truck. now that your truck is straining to move with those huge tires, 4.10s will get your rpms back up where they were. if you have 3.55s stock compared to those taller tires you might as well have just changed to 2.87's or lower. gear changes are expensive. maybe next time do they make 28" swampers or something like that?

i raced a buddy of mine with a 00 silverado 5.3 ltr. he has cat back exhaust and k/n i have an 01 Dakota with the 4.7 and 5 speed with no mods. Off the line he wasted me cuz i was too busy spinning tires and tire hopping. As soon as i got into 2nd and 3rd gears i started passing him like he was standing still. im sure if i got a bigger sized of tires or just put it in 4 wheel high then i would have no problem getting off the line better.

I raced a Silverado SS with my 2000 R/T. I left him both times. The second time, I took him off the line, let up, and then pulled him again on the top end of second gear, for fun. At the last light he told me he had just bought it, $40K, hahahahaha. I've got about $4K in parts on top of the initial $13K investment. I didn't tell him that, it'd really hurt his feelings
And I'll do it again tomorow!

i have a 01 r/t, my friend has a 2000 silverado with 5.3 cold air,t.b. spacer, mas air sensor, and reprogramed ecm, and exhaust; my r/t stock would take him from dead stop or 60 mph.
