Subject: 91 Dakota Cruise Control Fix

Message:
THe cruise control didn't work when I got this thing. I checked all the obvious: Vacuum at the servo, the linkage was hooked up correctly.

I got a factory service manual, and started checking for voltage at the PCM terminal as per instructed. Dead as a door nail, and the book said to check the wiring harness.

I started at the fuseblock under the dash, and had power going out. I followed it up the steering column, and found power to the connection to the clockspring.

I took the clockspring off and hooked an ohmmeter between the pins going in and the plug coing out. No continuity!

A call to the dealer, two days wait, and $115 lighter, I put the new clockspring in, and the CC works like a champ.

It pays to take a little time and check things out before replacing parts that were good in the first place.
