Subject: 99 R/T Tranny Noise?
IP: Logged

Message:
My 99 r/t makes a funny noise (sounds like it's coming from the tranny) when it is between 2700 through 3000rpm, it almost sounds like a hissing or thssssspssssssssssss (it's hard to explain)... So anyways, it will on happen in any gear and I was just curious if this sounds familiar to anyone?

I think I know the sound you are talking about, I always thought it was coming from the exhaust but it could be the tranny. I'm having the fluid changed in the tranny and diff this weekend I'll let you know if that makes any difference in the noise.

I appreciate it, one of my buddies told me that it could possibly be the stall converter stalling or something, but being that is the first auto transmission I've ever owned... Hell if know?

Does he mean the stall converter is locking up, that could be a possibility.

It usually doesn't happen though until higher physical speeds like highway driving.

He recommended I call a place called M.I.T. in San Diego, he was saying that if I told them some info on my truck that they could tell me over the phone if that noise was the stall range for my stall converter, so, I'm going to give a shot after work today. I let you guys know what they said.

That stall range is way to high for a stock converter, the stock one is definately under 2k as far as I can remember although I don't have the info.
