If you're going to keep the truck another 100K+ miles, go with SS. It will last longer. But it sure is expensive.

Aluminized is a standard steel pipe with an alum coating. It lasts longer than steel, because it never rusts. However, at the weld points it's now exposed to rust, and that becomes a weak point.

A lot of it depends on what your goals are, where you live, and who's doing the work. If you live in AZ, are doing the work yourself, and only plan on keeping the truck a couple more years, then get a standard steel system and clamp it together.

FWIW, I still have the original exhaust on my 1992. 185k miles, and only in the last 1-2 years has it begun to rust out.

What you want to get is aluminized 409 stainless. It is a low grade stainless made specifially for exhaust systems. Aluminized 409 exhaust systems will last over 10 years. This is what the OEMs have been using for the past 10 years or so. This is the reason that all the muffler shops now do brakes. You only have to replace exhaust parts every 10-15 years instead of 1-2. 300 series exhaust systems won't last much longer, they are just shiny and cost more.

$80 dollar diffrence in price for MBRP's exhaust system. Think an extra 80 isn't going to bankrupt me.

My aluminized Gibson system lasted 6 years before rusting out from the inside out (both muffler and pipes). I cannot speak personally for the SS type but I suspect that it's life span is probably in the 10 year or so range.
