my dakota doesn t like the water, and doesnt like to play tug of war. my fan clutch just let go and now I have to figure out how to remove it. It needs a brake job because they are squeeking so much.. but I like the pick up it has lots of power and very smooth.. the only thing I dont like about it is that it chuggs the gaz like 10. good little truck.

I'm looking at an '01 4dr 4.7 4X4 with 110,000 miles on it. It runs and drives like new (or almost new). The body is straight; it has excellent paint; it's clean underneath and in the engine bay (as clean as I'd expect for an '01).
What kind of nut would I be to purchase this vehicle for about $12K?

dak newbie, check out kbb.com and see what it goes for. I checked it out and it said $11,9XX, but I don't know all the specs on the truck.

I would check out the ball joints and front brakes on the truck since these are the most common problems for the Dak's. I picked a used 00 CC 2 years ago and beat up the dealer since the brakes and the upper balljoints were shot.

Hi All- I'm new here. Nice site!

1). 1998 Ram 1500 SLT 2wd Laramie, purchased new.
5.9 v8 w/140k. No mods. Pulls a two-horse trailer
and a heavy 24ft utility trailer.
Has only needed 2-3 sets of tires, 1 set of brakes and a battery. Always driven well, and had regular service work by the manual.

The truck has never, ever had one single electrical, driveline, engine, transmission, or suspension problem. There has never been so much as a cough. It's been mechanically cared for it's whole life, kept clean in-and-out and underneath and I'm sure the old girl's got at least another 100k left in her. I live in snowy/salted roads New York state and the only rust on Red is a halfdollar-sized spot on the rear bumper. It sits outside and starts every morning no problem.

2). 2003 Dakota QC 4wd SLT Plus. Purchased 3/03.
4.7 v8 w/27k. No mods. Pulls both trailers. I'm hoping this one "grows up" to be just as reliable as the Ram. So far so good. BTW mileage for this one at 27K is 12-20 (I don't use the computer),
with a best of 22mpg. My driving (100 mi/day) is 90/10 highway/surface roads. Not too bad, I think.

I have a 1997 Dakota with a 318 V-8 with about 102,000 miles. So far it's been a solid engine and I've only had to do routine tune-ups and mainenance on the engine.

The transmission did have to be rebuilt early on (under warranty) and the heater core/evaporator coil had to be replaced, but other than that everything else has been maintenance on regular wear parts.

i have a 1985 Dodge B150 5.2 with over 300K miles. Original motor and still kicken. It requires 20w50 oil though and one cylinder has lower compression than the rest.

We are probably gonna do a rebuild on it this summer.

Just put the third water pump on my 91 318- has over 300K on it- lots of little electrical gremlins over the years (I have push-button ignition now)....2 trannys, 3 rads, lots of front brakes- rear are original- a buddy of mine has a D100 with almost 500K on it- ORIGINAL front rotors! (always uses soft pads)...the block has been bulletproof so far, but she's starting to get tired: would anyone recommend putting a heavier oil in for the summer?
