I'm looking at trading in my 2002 cc v6 Altantic pearl Blue SLT. I love my truck but, you know its a 6 with 60000km.
I've got a line a 2004 same colour same features, hell my wife probably would not even notice, it's got the 4.7l. My question is, is the 4.7 worth it? whats the mileage like? any big issue or problems with the 4.7s?
My friend leaves his HEMI at my place during the week, so I have that to drive also, I just think my DAK looks way cooler.
any feedback or info is greatly appreciated.

i steppped up to an 00 4.7L cc auto 4x4 from a 98 rc 2wd 3.9L auto (both trucks 3:55 the 00 has LSD though) I suggest you tke the 4.7L for a spin! WOW it makes it a whole different truck! my gas mileage is about the same (if i can keep my foot out of it LOL :) and hearing that v8 under the hood is GREAT!
do a search for some of the info on the 4.7L. the biggest thing i can think of (i gather that this is rare) is that sometimes moisture collects in the oil filler (some kind of composite/plastic stuff) and dripps into the oil causing it to emulsify and inevitably lock the engine.... again i don't know how many have had this problem, but there are prople with well over 100K on the 4.7L with no problems....

I said the same thing. I owned a 2002 CC 4wd 3.9 auto. I sold it and bought a 2004 CC 4wd 4.7. Exact same truck except the motor. They are two completely different trucks. Ironic isn't it.

Took a 2004 quad for rip last night, my friend is the dealer here..I lit the tires up leaving the parking lot. Not my truck, so why not!!! That 4.7 sound great.
Big difference in those motors. I took my wife with me and she like the dif in the power, but wondered if it was worth it considering it;s the same truck.
And sadly a 1/2hr after that I had to run into the city and I took the HEMI. NOw I"m torn. I think it will really boil down to the $$$. I may end up having another HEMI in the drive way or even waiting until I can take a 2005 dak for a rip.
What kinda performance parts are avaiable for the 4.7, theres bugger all for the 3.9.

I think you will find yourself in the same boat if you choose the 4.7 in that the performance market is almost empty. The Hemi market is growing strong and will probably continue to well past the retirement of the 4.7.

Man this is getting tough..they had the truck brought in today. holy crap does that 4.7 cc 4x4 fly!
Looks really close to the same, it stands slightly higer than my truck(which sits higher than any others I have seen, so this new one is odd? very high) My 3.9 is an cc slt 4x4 with the silver dak badges on the doors. this new one is a sport plus(no chrome) and only has the 4x4 decal on above the rear wheels.
I'm able to swap all my old add ons for new..box liner step rails(brushed aluminum) bug defector..sadly my matching box rails have to stay(too many holes if I take them off)
I need lots of time to remove all my electronics though. ahhh crap I need to find some more money too!
well here to more sleepless night mulling this one over. Wife says no more toys if I get this one.

Done.. I get my 2004 cc 4x4 sport plus at 5pm tonight.
Took me 6 hours to remove all my gear(had to pull all interior panels/dash to remove stereo, pulled out my silverstar Headlights/K+N filter(which is the same model for the 2004 4.7l) from my 02..but I think it will be worth it.
The only thing I'm going to miss is my old rear slider window(it had a really dark tint).

Dear god,
For some reason it took me 3 tries to finally buy a v8 Dakota.
It all started with my 88 3.9l, followed by my 2002 3.9 which I love dearly, but now the 2002 has stepped down to let his Identical twin 2004(all be it much tougher) brother take over.
Why did I take so long...this thing hauls ass!!
I stop dead on the highway..and matted it(well as close to matt as I dare, it's only got 50km on it), My wife said hey next time you plan on giving me whiplash give me warning.
Thanks for the info and hints of encouragement guys.. I'm very pleased today, next is to put all my toys back in and have it look as cool as my 02.

Before you give up on the V6's, try the 3.7.
It outdoes the 3.9 hands down.
I test drove a Dak 2WD 3.7 stick. It didn't out
do my 4.7 4x4 auto but I sure was ready to trade
if they had what I wanted. They stopped making
04's and could not locate the 04 (3.7 V6) package
I wanted.
Maybe a 05 in my future?

Congrats on your new dak :-) how long can you keep tires on it LOL!! i sonetimes spin the tires taking off normally on dry pavement, and I have 3:55 LSD! the only thing about the LSD, is that it kicks sideways like crazy =P

Radioman..my electronics include a kenwood 261a and a kenwood 241(used witha tinytrak3 for APRS)

yep anti spin is LSD (limited slip differential) it should be nice in the winter time, especially havin 4 wheel drive :-) this is my first 4x4, sometimes i find it easier taking off in the rain in 4HI... especially pulling out onto a busy road! i cant get into tha gas at all in the rain (in 2wd). I can be going 40-45 and still break the tires loose, not even punching it (I can blame that on the crappy goodyear wrangler RT/S tires) its kinda scary, feeling the back end kick out driving down the road!!

my 00 dakota v8 is soo awesome in the rain. it is awd (an option on v8 4wd trucks starting in 00) and doesn't chirp in the rain. try racing a chevy or ford when it's slick out. he he it just aint fair.
ps dying to try out this jet chip +ai
