I have a 4.7 4x4 auto. I still think its a fast truck. It will be faster than a v6 5spd. At first i really missed driving my old 5spd, but i have grown to love the auto. If this truck is 2wd and a standard cab, it will be fast.

The quickest ones have the 3.92 gears; combine that with a 5 speed manual and it'll be as quick as an RT. I'm happy with my 4x4 auto, much quicker than the six.

I odered my 03' with the 4.7, RC, and the 5spd. I let my buddy drive it, he's got one of those new Pontiac Grand Prix GTP CompGs. He won't race me cuz' he thinks I'll smoke him. It's a pretty quick truck. You really gotta watch it, its hard NOT to squeel the tires than to do it by accident. Really fun to drive.

Damn sounds like I need to be looking around, do you guys think the 4.7's from the ones you own are better then the 318's? I have the 3.9L in my 93 Dakota and my dad has the 318 in his 93' work van (contractor) Both are really reliable engines the 3.9 being the 318 - 2cyl but I didnt know how the new 4.7's compare to them?

I would never get a reg cab 4.7L with an auto! Just special order a new one from the factory. Mine was less than $17K with a stick, 3.92 LS, 4 wheel brakes and 4.7L.

Big mistake getting an auto, the engine never revs like it does with a stick. The 4.7L really wakes up at 3,000 - 5,000 your auto will not be tuned for that range.

Really depends on how you use the truck - I can be stuck in traffic on a hill at N.H.I.S. for 2 hours with my camper in tow; waiting to get parked for a weekend at the races. I wouldn't want to trade my auto for a standard then...
