Subject: 4.7 Misfiring?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've got an '02 4.7 QC, Auto that is plagued by a misfire, or something that feels like a misfire. It is most noticeable at medium speeds, above about 40 mph. Dealer #1 replaced the PCM with no improvement at all. Dealer #2 (dealer #1 said go away) said they found a miss on #3, #6, and #8 by "checking missfire TEWT at 60% sensitivity" This dealer did a "decarb injection service" which has not seemed to help either. Anyone have any ideas? I recently replaced the plugs to Autolites (problem was there before) am considering going back to Champions. Perhaps there are problems with the injectors or coils? Please help - dealer #2 is probably going to tell me to go away next.

you might want to swap#3 #6 and #8 to different cylinders. (mark the coil paks accordingly) then if the missfires show up in different cylinders, the pak(s) are your problem.... if not its something in the wiring, or the injectors...

hope i helped..

I've had both the injectors and coil packs go bad on mine - but I abused them pretty badly. My guess would be the fuel injectors. I think they are junk. Have you tried a bottle of fuel injector cleaner? I had intermittent misses like that until I replaced the injectors with the FMS Bosch injectors. Now it idles perfectly and is smooth all the time.

Yeah, still drive it to work and everywhere else every day. No 11-second passes yet. With the heads done it goes as fast with 12 psi of boost as it used to go with 15 psi. I just haven't had the balls to turn it up to 15 psi yet.

Ihave seen somewith that problem and in those cases it was rust in the injectors, usually 2 or 3 of them at once. the dealer right away tried to blame cheap fuel and the question was asked that cheap fuel or not, isn't there a filter to catch debris? If not then shouldn't there be? The dealer fixed the problem no charge on warranty. this might not be your problem, but worth checking. I found out later that they had problems on some with machining particles getting through the system

Yeah, I'm going to take it back to dealer #2 and tell them problem is still occurring and to check injectors more thoroughly. I've tried fuel injector cleaner before, but will try again just for fun. I don't know if the dealer will mess around with swapping coil paks and check if the codes change, but they should because I'm going to keep pestering them until this is fixed. I've fought since I bought it at 26K and I'm at 32K now. Anyone know the corporate number to call D/C directly?

I have a 00 Dakota and I had a code show up at about 62000 miles that was for injector electronic mallfunction. Iwent to the local mopar dealer and asked about it and he said that an injector can not send a code.So therfore he said I may have a cylinder misfireing, because the rpm's would jump up 100 to 200 rpm's at 35+ mph,or at a constant speed. So long story short I changed my throttle position sensor and it took care of the problem

I get multiple misfires only when outside temp is above 80
degrees or so. Two shops have unsuccessfully attempted. Coil
packs have been checked. Next im going to check the
injectors. Anybody ever heard of injector acting up due to heat?
Truck never gets overheated but the problem only happens on
warm days.

Try swapping fuel injectors and see if the misfire goes to the other cylinder. recheck for codes and try doing a fuel injection service.

Swap coil from one good firing cylinder first to find out if you have a bad coil.

Pulling the injectors would be the second thing you do.

Chased similar problem with injector changes and
TB position sensor. In my case waspopping various
injector and misfire codes ... In the end for me
was a Crank or Cam position sensor that cleared
it. Not sure which now but fairly easy swap.
