Subject: 00 4.7L vs. 03 4.7L differences???
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2000 Dak with a 4.7L motor and a tow package.

Wife has a 2003 Durango with a 4.7L motor but does not have the tow package.

Besides mine having 99k miles on it (I know that alone affects the performance but I do not remember mine having this much pep), why would hers be sooooo much more peppier than mine? Are there differences inside the different year motors from the factory? Larger throttle body? different cams? Anything?

the only thing i can think of, is the difference in the throttle bodie size. our 99/00 4.7L throttle bodies, are 65mm. the 01 and up, are 68mm... my 00 performs great (49k miles 0-60 in 6 seconds.. not bad for a 4x4 auto CC) and its stock except a dynomax super turbo.. so you may have other issues besides the TB..

just my .02

Yours should actually be quite a bit peppier than hers. What specific model is yours? 5spd or auto? 2wd or 4wd? Gears? I'm assuming 3.92's. Maybe its time for a fuul tune up for yours. The only real difference between the two engines is the '01's+ dakota/durango has a 68mm TB rather than the 65mm TB that came on the '00. But the 01's+ have more cats. The '00 only has one. And the '00 cam with 235hp as opposed to 230hp in all other years.

The durango should be slower due to weight. Those things are tanks. I'd say get a full fluid flushing, new plugs, go ahead and get a larger TB (70mm), a free flow cat, and maybe a free-flow muffler. Like a magnaflow. But get the longer one because it quieter unless you want the louder sound. Also if you feel like it get the new 360airintakez intake. It actually makes around 10rwhp. Kinda impresssive.

Oh yeah and have you ever taken off you TB and cleaned it? I'd also clean the IAC sensor. These things usually will effect performance if left unclean.

your truck doesnt do 0-60 in 6 seconds man. take it to a track and u can expect a 16 second quarter mile at best. thats a heavy truck with club cab and auto and 4x4. u must be counting ur seconds too fast. it would take u a lot more than a muffler to get to 6 seconds 0-60.

I'd suspect different gearing and wether they are both 4x4, or auto tranny if there's a big difference. The 3mm difference in TB size and different intake manifold shouldn't be enough to make a heavier Durango quicker (or is your Dak the heavier quad cab ?). Look at differences other than the engine.
