I have a 1995 dakota extended cab sport with an automatic electric overdrive trans and a 318, the 318 is blown and pulled. I have a 1978 440 with a 727 complete with all brackets and driveshaft. I would like to use the overdrive trans but need to know what needs to be done for the whole swap, since the trans is elcetric can i use it without a special computer or can i just bolt it up like the original 727. Any info would be great. Also looks like i have a prob with the brake booster being to large, wonder if i can use 1 from a dodge van. Also any info on what headders i can use please

Nothing solid here, but since you got no other responses I'll give what I ASSUME to be the correct info.

Your transmission will be looking for instructions from the engine computer as for when to shift/kick down. And from what I know there isn't a 440 which is electronically controlled. So comes the problems with hooking it up.

The real thing is do you want that tranny behind a 440? I'd say no. Expecially the O/D box. They are not made for high torque, and I wouldn't trust reliability on that O/D box or the fancy smooth shifting electronic tranny.

If you want the O/D gear, you can pick aftermarket ones up that will match up to your 727 which can take the abuse, and you can control them better (rather than just off/on with the stock, and on meaning yoyo in and out in a hilly place like Alberta).

If your going 440 you can't be expecting good fuel milage, or smooth cushy acceleration (it should throw you into the back of your seat). So use the 727, and hell throw a shift kit in there.

Just my opinion,

Pat

Pat, he's had several responses to basically the same question on several other posts.
