Subject: AC or Tranny Problem??????
IP: Logged

Message:
Ok, so last night I'm driving up a steep stretch of Rt. 80 from Salt Lake City to Park City, UT. I drive this stretch a couple times a month and normally with O/D off it trucks along just fine. Last night I noticed my truck was acting really funny and I can't figure out what it was if it was anything. I had the AC on and I noticed this wierd feeling coming from what seemed to be the rear end of my truck. It almost felt as if the tranny was slipping but was really really suttle. I tried to see if it would do it with the AC off and it seemed like it stopped but again, was so suttle that it was hard to tell.

Now, I have been having problems with my tranny as of late. Same problem many are having with coming to a complete stop and having a sudden "nudge" or surge. I went to the dealer the other day and he said they can't pinpoint the problem unless I bring it in WHILE it's happening. Of course it wasn't happening that day and has actually stopped for about a week now.

So going back to last night I'm a little concerned. I'm hoping that it's related to my AC because that'd be a lot less expensive to fix and I can live without AC. But does this problem sound like it may be the AC compressor or is it just a coincedence that the AC happened to be on and the tranny is giving me Sh*t? I drive a 3 mile stretch of highway everyday to work but it's flat...not steep like the section I was driving last night so my engine and tranny hasn't been under that much load for a month or so.

umm what year truck, motor, miles on it, etc. the nudge or surge may be the gas tank sloshing. usually between 3/4 and 7/8 full.

2000, 90k miles on it, not one single mechanical problem and I just had the tranny in for servicing (dropped pan, flush, etc.). I know for sure it's not the gas tank. Especially in this case since I was driving 75 steady and up a highway pass. When I get the "nudge" at stops I know it's not the gas because I've had from empty all the way to full and it just doesn't feel like it's the gas sloshing away.

Just yesterday I drove again around town here (no faster than 55/60) and I think it was acting up again but man, it's so subtle that I can't tell if it is in fact a problem or it's my new Billstein shocks riding super stiff and I'm just feeling everything on the road. I've had these installed for months without this problem so I'll throw that out the window and I don't think it's a coincidence that it happens with my AC on but I can't imagine while I feel this in the rear end. It's so hard to explain...my only hope is that someone else has this problem and can give me some info on it.
