Just had both the ABS and the Emergency Light come on; never had this happen before. They do not come on with every ignition turn; sporadic, but, do not turn off until vehicle is shut down. What could be the cause? Is it a Do-It-Yourself project?

Please advise

Dareugo,

Thanks for the feedback; I will look into checking out the diff sensor and possibly replacing it this weekend; I'm also hoping that I have luck in finding this sensor (this town does not like Dakotas !!)

The Sensor in the differential is a Anti-lock Speed Sensor and it is a Dealer Item $36 to $40. It is easy to swap out, but your problem will not go away by changeing this sensor. Check to see if you have a loss of Fluid in the Break cyclinder and has the feel in the peddle changed. Look for wet rear break shoes and inspect the over all conditions of the Hydralic and mechanical system. Other than that you may have to take it to a Certified Mechanic.

Chris,

Thanks for the tip; you were right...once I pulled on the E-Brake lever, I've had no problem with the ABS/Brake Light coming on again.

Very Appreciated Help coming from The Dakota Brotherhood; thanks to all of you who make this happen and offer assistance to other Dakota owners. It comes in handy when trying to make things work out.

Regards,

I have a problem like this too. When I started my truck the ABS light and the Ebrake light would come on at the same time and stay on. I put the emergency brake on and released it. No change. I drove home and checked the brakes and fluid...no problem. Couldn't figure it out. The next day I started it and it was gone. Figured the problem solved itself. Few days later it comes on again.

Something very similar to this happened on my little Mazda 2200 pickup I had so I decided to try something. On my dodge when I noticed it happen again...(while driving) I would turn the key in the ignition slightly (I'm talking just a hair). The speedometer bar would drop suddenly like I was braking to a stop then rise back up to the current speed and then the ABS light and ELight would turn off.

Strangest thing but it works. I'm not sure if there is something I need to check out or not but it seems to work and I haven't heard of anyone having this problem other than you guys.
