Subject: A few questions for a 4.7l

107,000 plus miles, no major problems so far but there are a couple of things I would like know about. I have been noticing a ticking noise coming from the enginge area, I have heard that this is common with 4.7s, I am hoping that it is nothing serious. Also with cruise controle set traveling across flat terrain the engine will rev up 100-200 rpms for no apparent reason. Also have had problems with rough idle and stalling. Just changed the plugs to Autolite 5224's

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I think a new throttle position sensor may cure the rpm fluctuations. I hear it can be out of wack but not throw a code. For 35 bucks(autozone) it might be worth trying. The ticking could be an injector, mine has had it since new, dealer says it is normal. My idle drops to just above 500 when it`s above 55 degrees, dealer says it is a known problem but no flash available yet. The 00`s had a flash for low idle and stalling but it also retarded the timing so you lost power, aka the "death flash". Like Kowalski said cleaning your TB(and IAC) may help a lot.(did it always have idle and stalling problems?) Good luck.

My 00 QC has the exact trans problem you described it did it for a few months around two yrs ago and started back recently. Heard flushing tranny would fix but it hasnt. Will try the above mentioned fixes and keep ya posted. Does cleaning the throttle body mean I have to remove it?

2Kdak pull the t-body to clean it. you do not want to wash the crap that comes loose down in the engine.

Later.

Yeah definitely pull it off and clean it. Also clean your IAC while your at it. Clean it carefully though, dont just start scrubbing it.
