I have been reading about the MSD and Jacob's ignition systems for the Dakotas. I am at a quandary what to go with now. I am looking for increased gas mileage, plus my plugs and wires are pretty worn as it is now.

Any suggestions for what I should go with on a R/T? It is pretty mildy tuned: Mopar ECU, K&N panel, & a different throttle body.

Where is the best place to buy ignition systems? Local parts stores carry them (Napa?)

Jag-

To be honest you really dont need to spend that much cash on ignition parts with your mods. Not to say you shouldnt get quality parts though. Ive had a Borg-Warner cap/rotor,Taylor wires and autolite plugs now for about 10K and theyre holding out good.
I suppose it wouldnt hurt anything to get an MSD/Accel ignition now and it would be able to handle any mod you would do later. Jacobs seems a little high imo.

I have had both the Jacobs and MSD6a system. When I mean system, I mean the ignition box, coil, plug wires and recommendations on spark plug and gapping.

The Jacobs had incredible performance, but is very questionable on reliability. I now run the MSD6a, SS-Blaster coil and super conductor wires.
The MSD-6a performance is slight less than Jacobs and much more reliable. I have never heard of an MSD box failing, I running 2 of them on a v8 4x4 and a 2 wheel drive v6.

According to Larry from J and J Auto out of Wisconsin (he posts mostly on the v6 board) the MSD6a is the way to go. He has experimented various spark plugs and he has found the Autolite AP3923 gapped at 60 thousands to work the best for the 3.9, 5.2 and 5.9 engines. The Autolite 3923's gapped at 45 or 50 thousands also work very good. I know of others including myself who has had good luck with the Bosch Platinum +4's, part of it comes down to cost. Definitely consider the MSD, I don't think you can wrong with it. I will say this Larry will only run MSD, he has his own shop and has installed many systems on his customer's auto's so he goes with what works and has a history of reliability. It doesn't do you good to have a very power ignition system if it leaves you stranded in the road.

Yeah, the Bosch Platinum +4's are god over the Autolites. I tried them on recomendation from a friend after running Autolites for eons. I will NEVER switch back, even though the Bosch's cost more.

Thanks fellas. I wasn't really looking for performance as much as bette gas mileage. A buddy of mine claims his MPG increased by 1-2 when he switched to a Jacob's ignition on his Dodge Ram (5.9). The truck is plenty fast enough for me.

How much more do the Bosch +4 cost then the Autolites. .60 seems like a pretty huge gap...I guess a high powered ignition system can jump that efficiently. What do these systems cost anyways?

What would my best setup be as far an entire ignition system. I have a MSD-6A on order. I was thinking of going with the Blaster-SS coil. I already have the Autolites 3923s. Any recommendations on plug wires? That should take care of everything, right? I was planning on leave the distributor as is...unless it needs replaced.

Once again...I am looking for the most of my gas mileage.

Check out the Taylor spiro-pros at Summit. Theyre around $45-$50 and a great heat resistant wire. I replaced my MSD wires with Taylors and they are every bit as good at about half the cost. They even make them in a bunch of different colors.

Thanks, Irish. What other ignition components are you running? How is your HP & MPG?
