The 4.7 isn't neccesarilly (I know I spelled that wrong, lol) a superior motor, it's just more efficient. The 5.9 is an old motor. It's not completely outdated and is in fact quite reliable. The 4.7 however, with it's SOHC layout gets better gas mileage, passes emissions easier, and doesn't make a whole a lot less power than the 5.9 It's just part of all these manufacturers trying to make cheaper, more economically efficient motors. In the process, most are switching to overhead-cam motors. And although they do have their benefits, believe it or not, they have quite a few drawbacks when compared to the "old-school" overhead valvers like the 5.9 in my Dak.
