PLEASE READ I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!!!! DO NOT REPLACE YOUR PCM......... IT FAILS AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE CRANKCASE SENSOR PLEASE READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a 99' dakota with the same PCM problem, it had had it for years.....NOW I HAVE THE SOLUTION FOR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!as i know it always seems to be the first plug on your PCM that you have to jiggle to get the cluster to reset once it's cooled down.................the real problem is NOT the pcm NO BUS.... it is your CRANKCASE sensor located on the BELL HOUSING......remove the starter and the bell housing cover and blow it out repetedley ensure all the small dust like metal fillings are out.........remove the crankcase sensor...there is only two mounting bolts....pull it and the wires out carefully from the bell housing......IMEDIATELY you'll notice that this sensor is MAGNETIC AND COVERED IN METAL SHAVINGS!!!!!with some sensor cleaner and a small pick you should be able to remove all the particals from the sensor put everything back the way you found it NO NEW PARTS ARE NESSECARY!!!!you'll now find you can run that truck all damn day in the sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!just remeber in a few weeks pull the sensor back out and maintain
cleaning it won't be long before you have all the pestering filings out that block the sensor from reading your crank and shut down your VEHICHAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!my truck has been running in the hot sun now for three weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!STUPID MAGNETIC SENSORS!!! PLEASE READ THIS IT IT AND EASY FIX TRUST ME NO NEW PARTS OR SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED

I have a 2000 QUAD CAB 4.7 GETTING NO BUS, THE OWNER POWERWASHED THE ENGINE fried the pcm, now the 5v to sensors is restored but still no bus, no fireing nothing... asd relay has 12v to it but is not being pulled down by the pcm either?

there is some discoloring on the connector to pcm, the area where the 12v is powering the ign. coils and injectors, have not verified IF the connector is fried or not? is it even replaceable/part avail?

i've checked all grounds, power dist. box, everything looks fine.

don't think crank sensor has anything to do with it, unplugged and still no bus, ran fine till he power washed!

any ideas where else to look?

NOOOOOO! unplugged it but still got 'NO BUS'

didn't expect it to start!

getting p1389 i think it was on a scanner, and looking that up said the pcm was not getting any output from ASD relay when energised, i probed the pin on pcm, hit key, when ASD relay energised I DID get 12v till the relay de-energised, so not a wireing issue...

wondering if the rebuilt pcm i got has a problem?

I guess 2014 is the year for 2002 Dakotas to shred their PCM units....

I have the same no bus message on odometer.

Truck will turn over, no bus message blinks a few times and then constant. I have looked at several forums for answers, haven't found any answers that provide enough information. Help!

I had the same thing wrong with my 2002 DAKOTA. "NOBUS", tried to start it one day and couldn't. Thought it was a wiring or sensor problem, maybe needed a new cluster or something but Come to find out all it needed was a Brand new computer. truck started right up after that.

2001 Dakota quad cab 3.9. Same problem. No bus on
odometer. Scan tool cannot communicate with PCM. Check
5v ref on crankshaft, MAF, TPS and camshaft sensors. All
good none grounding out. Replaced crankshaft sensor. It was
running great and just died driving down the road. Verified all
ground connections. Pulled PCM, opened case sealed in gel
with no visible damage. I cannot find the ASD relay that some
people have referenced. Any help would be appreciated.

I have 99 Dodge Dakota, it dies driving down the road. It used to happen after 30 minutes on highway, now it is down to 5-10 minute drive,
and it dies. At first the gauges freeze, then they
drop down to nothing. All the gauges are not working, but flashers, radio starter all work.
no bus on odometer some of the time. It takes
10 minutes usually to work, last time it took 50
minutes to work. When I turn the key on and the
gauges come to life, then I know truck will
start. I got no clue, any ideas?
Truck only has 55,000 miles so I want to keep it.

Hi Joe,

I'd be looking at the PCM. All the gauges run
through it, along with the ignition and fuel.
It's not uncommon for their to be bad solder
joints that fail as the PCM warms up.

Swapping it is easy and you can get a
remanufactured one.

You could try to obtain codes when it happens - do
you have a code reader? The '99 won't do the key
trick I believe.

Well i was having the same problem after i installed a light bar
it would start and stall like 5 sseconds after. I think it was
something to do with the battery for my truck because i
disconected it for 10 minutes and put it back on and it started
up and ran fine. I was getting scared reading all these
comments and it also just hit 200,000km but now its fine i
hope this helps someone else too

The left rear power lock will not work and at times the right as well. At times the information sensor goes crazy at times with all those lights coming on as well as brakes light flashing, door ajar etc. Any help will be appreciated...
