I just bought a 99 Kota 4x4 with 57000K miles. So far I have filled it up 4 times and I'm averaging 11.2 MPG's in the city and 12.7 MPG's with mostly highway driving. I am planning on getting a Tonneou cover or a net for the bed, would these help? I was wondering if anybody with my truck knows if this is the average or not. I know I'm not supposed to believe ANYTHING a salesman says (especially a used car salesman) but he said it gets 16-20 MPG! Maybe that's BEFORE I start it up...lol
Anyway... thanx in advance for your input...

Max

You've got issues. My '94 4x4 got about 15 mixed freeway/city. My new '99 4x4 is about the same, maybe a little better.

If you're driving it like a race car, then I could see 12mpg.

I doubt you'd see much of an improvement with a tonneau cover. You've got something weird going on - run the codes.

I got a 99 Dak with 3 inch lift and 32 inch tires running 3:55 gears.

I get 10-11 in city. All free I can squeeze 12-13 if I'm lucky.

sucks...plus I have to run super unleaded otherwise it pings even with all the dumb fixes everyone talks about on this web site.

I get about 18 MPG on the highway doing about 130KM/H and driving it pretty hard...I'm pretty sure if I drove the speed limit and didnt floor it all the time I could get well over 20 MPG

Doubtful Chris, unless you've done some major mods to it. If you have, you mind sharing them with us? I can assure you that you won't get that kind of mileage with a stock intake, the dang thing is horribly restrictive.

Sephiroth, what kind of mods do you have done to your truck to get that kind of gas mileage? I have a 94 5.2 CC that can get 22-23 on the highway, but not not that in the city? I live in a small town and my driving is about 50/50 city and highway. I might get 18-19 with mixed driving.

I have an open-element air-intake housing. That helped the most in my opinion. It added a TON of horses (like a new dang engine) and my mileage sky-rocketted. You can see the new housing at the site below. Aside from that, I use only AMSOIL 10W30 in the engine, run Bosch Platinum 4 plugs, I have a 180deg thermo and I switched to the orange coolant a year ago. I also take the top of my engine apart once every six months and clean it thoroughly.
