Subject: 4.7 Head Redesign?! Happier days ahead?

I just got back from my dealer getting some work done... Got to talking to the service advisor about synth oils and what not in the 4.7 and the hot-spots on the head etc..

Well, he nodded and said 'Yeah, when that engine first came out a lot of the mechanics figured they'd be out of work because the Engineering guys were telling us how bullet-proof it was.. But then the baking and sludging problem came along.'

He went on to tell me that he hadn't seen a large number of the 4.7's with sludge problems, but that the factory was recommending they sludge flush them as they got higher milage. But according to him he has had two of the 4.7's recently that needed the heads replaced due to this problem and that on one of them a few weeks ago he became aware that Dodge has a new head design for the 4.7's.

Apparently its not available yet to the dealers, but its in the pipe. He said he believes the factory might be already installing these heads on new builds.

I have him looking to see if my truck has the new heads (it left the factory March 11 2004), and I'm looking forward to finding out either way... If its got the old heads I'll know to baby it, and if it has the new ones, hopefully I'll be able to relax a little.

Anyhow, I figured you 4.7 guys might want to know about this, since I've figured by reading here for the last two years that a lot of you have pretty bad service departments... I'm blessed with a good one that doesn't jerk me around.
