Subject: Should I replace my transmission?

Message:
I'm taking a poll. I bought a 2WD 1993 Dakota LE Auto with 5.2L engine and 150K miles on it for $1200. Now the Tranny needs replacing, it won't shift into 4th gear (its something internal). The body is OK, some rust but underside looks quite good and the engine seems strong, no leaks or burning oil that I can tell. Even the A/C works. So the question is do I replace the tranny? Or just drive it, when it dies, junk it. Considering a tranny will probably cost at least $2500 I would guess, is it worth it? Oh, I should say that this is not my primary vehicle I bought it just for those times you need a truck.

A cop on horseback is at a traffic light and next to him is a kid on his bike.
The cop smiles and says to the kid, "Nice bike you got there. Santa bring that to you?"
The kid looks up and says, "Yeah."
The cop says, "Tell Santa next year to put a taillight on that bike."
The kid says, "Nice horse you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?"
The cop smiles and continues his light-heartedness, "Sure did."
The kid says, "Well, tell Santa next year to put the dick underneath the horse, instead of on top."

You should be able to get the trans rebuilt for alot less than $2500. I would guess $1500 or less if you shop around.

If you are going to keep the truck and plan on driving it for a long time, than you may want to rebuild it. If you aren't, unload it and go on down the road.
