1999 Dakota Sport-5.2 My air conditioning clutch continually engages and disengages from the moment of start up. The air is NOT on and it makes no difference what the outside temp is at start up. It does this every 5-10 seconds. Need help please.

If you have the defroster on then it's normal. On our Daks, the thing kicks in to dry out the air before it gets heated so condensation won't form and freeze on the windshield. If you have the button in the defroster position, try changing it to one of the other positions, such as feet and up top. If that doesn't fix it, I dunno.

On a side note, wanna' sell it? :D
Mine broke about a year ago (the three small pieces going to the ring from the top piece snapped) and I can't afford to pay $212~$220 for a damn tiny clutch, when the clutch, new compressor, and condensor are only $300 together. Dodge does that because the other two units are f*cking useless without the $5 clutch.

I just pulled the ring off and run without it for now. When it gets warmer, I can put the ring on, and I bent part of the upper-clutch piece so it'll catch and turn, but it stays on all the time. Still, better than no A/C in 100deg weather.

My problem is that I've got soe damage up top due to a motorcycle accident. So before it gets hot, I have to mount that clutch-piece back on there or risk havin a siezure while driving. High-temps seem to set me off. Luckily, I haven't had one since '98, when I'd had the wreck and didn't realize I'd need to stay out of the heat.

Still, I'll do my half-arsed clutch-fix before paying $212 for a piece of metal worth MAYBE $20.
