Briefly today after I first started the truck in the morning, mind you it was still a little cold, I drove it out of the parking lot and up to the first light. When I tried to leave the light the truck just reved it wouldn't actually move forward. I figured I wasn't putting enough gas down it was a slight incline, I pressed hard and the truck surged forward and then drove normally. It has only happened once, I have not been able to reproduce this. Is it possible the transmission was just a little too cold?

Check tranny-fluid. After the engine reaches operating temp, throw it into neutral and check the level. Our vehicles need fluid for the clutch to grab, and if it's a little low, maybe an air-pocket or something got cycled through, and the clutch wasn't pulling for a moment.

Guess I should get a Haynes manual. I'm going to go all synthetics soon so maybe this is a good enough reason.

Definitely sounds like low fluid. Not sure what else it could be besides that.

ATF +4 is the latest and greatest tranny fluid from Mopar. Its suppose to be a "blend", not full synthetic. At $8 a QT. its not cheap either. You can always go up a grade with your tranny fluid, but never go down a grade with it. (If your using +3, you can go +4, never the opposite). Good luck.

Thanks Mudlizard We use +4 in all of our trans flushes. It helps some trans but not all with hard seals. I would try a flush first and go from there.
