Subject: 3" too big?

Ive always been told that 3" piping was too big for a true dual exhaust, but GSMotorsports is offering it on one of their exhaust systems. Also, how much of a performance gain would there be with the 3" over the 2.5"?

A dual 3-inch is too big. Now, if you were packin' a big block, it'd be cool, but on a smallblock, even a hot one, dual 3inch is just too big, and low rpm torque will suffer. It's more like dual 2.5 for performance smallblocks, or a single 3-incher.

It depends on the engine and set-up.
If I put dual 3" on my stock 4.7L(287CID) then i would kill low end torque.

I have a Chevy ElCamino with a (6.3L) 383CID (350 bored and stroked). I put on a true dual 3" from the collectors through flowMaster 40's over the axle and straight out the back. I did not lose any low end from adding that system. I actually gained lowend power.

visit www.reubengathright.com and click on the dakota. I have several videos and sound clips there for you to hear the GS Motorsports duals.

Also, the 3" system was designed for those 4.7L's that have a super charger due to the increased exhaust flow.
