Subject: PCM upgrade for a 99 R/T
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm wanting to upgrade to the mopar PCM (I think) I'm confused about what I have read - I see lots of conflicting reports about how much it helps or if it helps at all...

I'm woried that if I buy one then take it to the dealer to get the vin and milage flashed they will nuke it and replace the performane settings with econo crap.

Do these things work? What kind of HP gain can I expect at the rear wheels?

I wish I could help you out, but I've been wondering the same thing. I bought a Hypertech Programmer for my '99 r/t, but never got a chance to install it. Wrecked my truck on the way home from work:( I was planning on buying another one for the r/t I have now, but I've heard from a lot of people that the Hypertech unit sucked though so who knows. Anyone else got any feedback??

This is a topic that greatly concerns me since I am in the same boat. My R/T performs very well but now it is time to upgrade the pcm. I have heard many people say the mopar pcm is well worth the money but hearing more testimonials would be good as well as hearing from users that have other programming work besides a mopar pcm such as hypertech, etc..,

Doing a search on this site is what lead to my confusion in the first place, thats why I posted and indicated conflicting reports up front.

I have 2 tech degrees - 1 in electronics and the other in IT. I need clear cut answers before I swap software and it looks like others want it too.

I have the same truck as you... 99 R/T. I havent upgraded the PCM yet but everyone I've talked to says that the mopar performance PCM is the way to go if your going to run natrually aspirated. On the other hand... if your going to be strapping on a supercharger, you probably want a custom flash. I think theres a company called B&G that does them. More pricey though, your looking at quite a few hundred $'s for software. Unfortunatly, since I dont have any hands on experience, I can only offer what I've heard. Below, I've linked you to KRC's website which explains more in depth about what the PCM does. Also, no offense to anyones knowledge, but most people on this site are not running R/T's. You may get better response about specific questions by checking out the delphi R/T forums. You can get a link from dakotart.com. Anyway, good luck, I know I'll be getting the mopar PCM soon.
