My truck felt kinda sluggish taking off. I have an 01 RC 4.7 5 speed SLT. I was behind my friend. She drives a corolla with a 4 banger. I actually had to try to keep up with her taking off. I stopped at a stop sign, went to shift to 2nd and it wouldnt shift. I tried every gear and it wouldnt shift. I finally got it into second and got it moving. Then it wouldnt i couldnt get it in to another gear. I eventually got it to shift right but it jerks on takeoff. If i just let it idle and let out the clutch, i hear a clanking noise. Im thinkin its the clutch. I just got this truck and i have been pretty easy on it so far. Guess i got a lemon. Im takin it back to the dealer in the morning. Any other ideas? Thanks, Anthony

Sounds like a clutch. It isn't a lemon if it needs a clutch, it just needs a clutch.

Ya, you are better off getting the mechanics right before adding extras. New tires, clutch, and other basic maintenance will also give ya some power.
what i would do if i bought a used truck
i would buy the spark plugs people talk about in here, get new wires and all those basic parts that are also racing parts, like ignition stuff blah blah change to the oil you plan on using. Then air intake, exhaust blah blah.
Good luck have fun, I am enjoying my dakota.

It is the clutch. I have had the truck for about a month now and the clutch goes. I have drove it kinda hard at times but nothin too bad. The dealer said it was my fault because i didnt know how to drive a 5 speed. I owned a 96 dak with a 5 speed for 3 years and never had any clutch trouble. I drove it just like my new one. I prolly drove that one harder cuz it was so damn slow just tryin to get out every ounce of power it had. They want $722 to put a new clutch. Im gonna call around tomorrow to find a better price.
