I am not aware of ANY true cold-air intakes available for the 4.7L V8. There was one company that was developing an intake that would suck from INSIDE the fender... but their website is now depricated.

There are a number of intake systems for the 4.7L that allow the use of an aftermarket filter but these all suck from under the hood.

I would say that the VOLANT ( http://volantperformance.com/ ) may be the best engineerd of them. For looks, this one( http://www.intenseperformance.com/ ) may be the best.

I think it would be cool to get one of the quick cold filters from intense performance and make your own intake. The tub the comes with the filter should do the cold work well. I've got a 360airintake though and am satified. For some reason my truck never came with a rubber flap. Guess DC didn't think a south florida truck would need one.

Cool... The STAGEIII system for the 4.7L was not there the last time I visited ( www.intenseperformance.com )

I stand corrected!!

(Tho... I feel the $300 pricetag is pretty steep)

The best by far is 360AirIntakez. Do a search, here on this website, you will find probably hundreds of messages/replies covering this. The 360 and the rubber flap removed from the passenger side of the radiator (and some people also homebrew a deflector) and you have a true cold air intake good for an added 12-15 Hp and 15 Lbs torque. I beleive, with shipping, $180, check out 360AirIntakez.com and it ever looks awesome.

currently theres no true cold air intake for the 4.7l If you want cold air the filter needs to be outside the engine bay. Even if the rubber flap is removed theres alot of radiator wash, plus the heat that soaks in sitting still.

just my opinion. I'm trying some different things curently and have had good results.

I had the intense, its not worth it and the 360intake is no better, none of them make 5 hp let alone 15,uhuh,I spoke to our local sales rep from K&N and he told me they dont make a FIPK becasue they couldnt get any real gains out of them for the 4.7,they do help a little on the top end but low end grunt is adversley affected, anyway if really want one just go to a muffler shop that has a mandrel bender and get them to bend you one up,cause thats all they are

Roar makes a carbon fiber intake that is cup shaped so it apparently directs/forces the air with more velosity then cones that suck from the sides. It claims it will bring 20hp because the carbon fiber dosn't get hot as well as the added force of air due to the cup design...? But it is still in engine bay soooo? Anyone heard of or tried? Curious...

Your looking at some old info here - K&N has since come up with and released tha cold air FIPK for the 4.7 that will dyno a gain. If the roar is exposed to hot air under the hodd I'd be worried; and its doubtful the cup design would force the air - it would have to be exposed and faced directly at air forced into it under speed. I doubt it is being fed pressurized air.

The best air intake for a 4.7L is a home built 4". Metal based units actually heat the incoming air and have an effect on intake air temperature sensor. PVC acts as an insulator and is real cheap to build. Autozone sells 4" cone or tube filters on special order.

Note: The system may create PVC gas. The gas is in very small amounts at best! To get any significant amount of the gas you will need to be right next to a hot (150F+) PVC pipe. Second hand smoke would be more lethal. :)
