My R/T handles great, and after several mods, I am VERY satisfied! I'm planning on a trip to the drag strip soon, but I imagine autocross would also be a blast with an R/T too! I raced one 4.7, but I think he was totally stock, so he got spanked hard. My neighbor has a 4.7 and he says it drives great, I'm sure it does. A few people have already made the correct analysis here: No replacement for displacement. 12 second 300+HP daily driver, parts availability. They are right, with the right mods, the R/T is one sweet ride!

I don't want to get into the 5.9 vs 4.7 hate comments, but since it has already started...

My truck is bone stock, 4.7, 5spd, 3.55 lsd, reg. cab. short bed. I have only raced one 5.9 Dak... beat him twice. First time, I started from behind him at a light, within 300 feet, I pulled him by 2 truck lengths. At the next light, side by side, he was had no chance when I hit 3rd gear.
It seems like the 5.9 is better "ut of the hole", but once you hit 3rd gear with a 5spd. truck, the 4.7 really takes off.

And did I mention over 20Mpg on the highway, lets see a 5.9 truck do that without serious mods....

I hear you there, my r/t gets horrible gas mileage, especially if you put your foot in it all the time:) I'm not going to knock the 4.7 though, it's a good motor. 4.7 Daks are also pretty quick. I've never had any trouble beating them though. Raced a cc 5-speed one night. He had a car head start and was already rolling. I got on it (from a stop) and had him by two cars by the time we reached the next light. Best part was he had his girl with him, gotta love that:)

I think I am gonna look at some R/Ts when it comes time to get my new truck. I want something that can handle like a car and i think the R/T would be great. Is there anything that i sould look for when looking at a R/T.

I would just be sure to ask them for all the information they know about the truck. How many previous owners, what they used the truck for, etc. Some people dog the crap out of they're rides, so you never know. Both of the ones I've had only had 2 previous owners before me. Both were in excellent shape as well. Where do you live? There are several for sell where I'm at. Was just reading a trader paper at work earlier, and I found 3 within 75 miles from where I live most expensive one was $12,000. My first one was $10,000 and my last one was $12,000. Hope that helps and good luck:)

No way, man! I live in Bertrand, Missouri, and I drive by there pretty (close to it anyway) every time I go to visit my grandparents in Jasper. As far as that price, you're going to have a hard time finding an r/t that cheap. It's possible, but you might have drive a ways. You should be able to find a good one for around $10,000 though, if you can swing that much. Hope that helped you out a little bit. Good luck finding a truck, and let me know when you do, or if you need anymore help:)

I've got a 2000 4.7 dakota. I've put a chip,K&N air intake system and a flowmaster with duel exhaust on this truck. I don't think that I could out run an R/T, but I don't think a R/T would win by much. If i did not have the wieght of my 4 wheel drive, I know I would put up one hell of a race, if I did not win.

Lowrider190-

I was just in Mountain Home yesterday. Dowm visiting my grandparents. Didn't get to spend much time there, but I didn't think it was that big. Strange that you can't find what you're looking for. On our way back up I hope we're going to stop and spend a little time there. The farthest we ever get is a stop at Wal-Mart and Popeye's to grab a bite to eat.

I should not brag, but, I have to tell you, I smoked a big Ram with the new Hemi, in my little 4.7 stock quad Dakota, just 2 days ago. There was little competition, but I have to say that the 4.7 is quick. What spark plugs does everyone use for the 4.7 Dak? It's time for a tuneup. I use the Autolites in the Durango, but it has the 5.2, and I do have numerous mods on the Durango. One day will have to check out which is faster, I'm sure the 4.7 will give the Durango a run for the money. Thanks.

The 4.7 has a higher tow capacity than the R/T or the 5.9 in in the quad Dakota. Look it up on the Dodge site. The 5.9 is rated higher in the 03 Durango. The 4.7 pulls great with the 3.92, rated at 6700 lbs, I pull 7500 frequently with my AWD 03.

This maybe a little off topic but where does the 5.2 stand in
all of this? Maybe mid for towing, mid for speed?

Thanks,
Justin
