Subject: dakota r/t vs. RSX type-S

Message:
I know a guy with a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S 6-speed who wants to race my 1999 cc r/t. Everyone I've talked to says his car is really quick, but I think I can take him. What do you guys think?

If this is truly between two friends one of you will embarass the other, you'll have a beer and laugh about it, and that'll be the end of it.

Sephiroth,I did that once (impossible race hehe)
It was a late 60s mustang mach 1 with healthy exh. and a nice cam... I started it, not him lol. He was just sittin next to me at the stop light, and I lightly powerbraked it :-) he looked over with a smirk and when the light turned green (i had been torque braking my dak) I took off only to see this black blur fly by in the other lane (he chirped second!!) lol! he signaled me to pull ino the speedway station, and we had a good laugh about it. it was a 390 i think, with a lot of edelbrock stuff on it and a crane cam. I'm a dodge man through and through but man that car was sweet!
just another reason I need an R/T!!

raced my co-workers rsx from a dead stop around a corner and down about 300 feet. passed him hitting second gear, then had to hit the brakes.

not sure what the type S brings to the table, but you should be able to keep him in site.

I have 94 5.2 headers 1.7 rockers and small mods...

By the way, I have a cold air intake, ported/polished and shaved heads, Crane Cam, and cat-back exhaust. Sorry, forgot to mention earlier.

I've raced about four of them in the 1/8 mile and beat them by a few tenths. The cars (Type-S)are quick, so don't expect to walk all over them. With those mods and a good launch you should be able to pull out the win.

Just so you know the four I raced ran the 1/8 mile between 9.4-9.6 seconds. Funny thing is that the fully stripped(nothing but a driver's seat, steering wheel and instrument cluster) Type-S ran the 9.6, which was the slowest of the four.

Nice one, daff! I know when I'll lose, but I enjoy it anyway. I mean we're driving 4x4 trucks racing these sports-cars, not exactly an ideal setup :p! Heck, I've been cruising at 100mph in my friend's 'vette and have seen what it can do. When he floors it at 100-120mph, you get thrown back and held in the seat. I knew I couldn't beat him, but it was funny trying!

Something odd I noticed, is that my '92 V6 has 125 on the dash, but my '95 V8 only has 110! The V8 *IS* faster, so I wonder why they did that?

All my V8 daks (92, 93, 94, 98, 2000, 2002) have had the 120mph speedo. My 2001 V6 also had the 120mph speedo.

DeepDak is your dakota an r/t? If so, (and if not) what mods do you have? I still haven't raced the guy because my truck is in the shop right now. I'm almost positive I can beat him though because I just talked to my friend who drives a Civic Si and he said he only lost (to the RSX) by 2 cars. When I raced my friend, I gave him a 2 car head start and beat him by 2, so I'm pretty confident. He's got 18"s on his RSK, so that may be hindering him a bit. I guess I won't really know until I race him, so I'll let you guys know what happens when I finally get my truck back.

Stephen,

Single Cab R/T with a little intake and exhaust work. ;) I've got K&N intake, M1, R/T heads, MP computer, and flowmaster muffler. The exhaust manifolds, y-pipe, internals, etc. are all stock. The lack of an aftermarket exhaust(headers and larger y-pipe) really hinders the gains I could be seeing. I beat the S-types in full street mode, which is no weight reduction, full tire pressure, and no burnout.

Like I said, with your mods and a good launch you should beat him.

Thanks DeepDak!!!
I used to own a single cab red 99 r/t that was stock. It wasn't bad, but my current one would absolutely murder my old one :) By the way it's in the shop to get a cowl induction hood and to be completely repainted Pearl Black. I think it's a Lexus color, not sure though. My dad actually picked it out and I liked it too, so thats what we went with. After that's done, it's going to be lowered 3" in front, and 4" in back. Next up, hopefully, although it'll be a while is a set of chrome 20" r/t wheels and a "modest" stereo system (tired of all my other high school buddies making fun of me for not having a system, lol).
