Limited slip is a option add on, your window sticker should indicate it. Or you could simply throw some water under the rear wheels, set it in 2WD and burn some rubber while a buddy watches to see if both are spinning.

Mr.Sleepy - that's not a good test - on wet pavement, my open rear will light up both tires; that doesn't mean I have a LSD rear. Please do a search on this for a better way to tell; I've explained it many times before.

Yeah, I have LSD on both my trucks, but if I floor them and break traction I smoke both tires. I know because I've left two black-streaks of rubber, not one.

apart from un-bolting the cover and taking a look inside,

a good old fashioned method is:

jack both real wheels of the ground,
put trans.in neutral and parking brake off
(block -front- wheels before jacking)

spin a wheel with your hands,
if the wheel on other side of axle spins
in the same direction, it's an LSD.

if the wheel on other side spins the opposite
direction than what your's is turning,
then it's an "open" diff.

Actually, same direction means positive, unless I am mistaken. Mine spin opposite directions and it's LSD. That's on both my trucks, and both have LSD.

Not 100% sure about the Trac-Lock units
on late model light duty Dodge truck have but,

on older type GM Posi-Traction and Auburn Sure-Grip LSD's = same direction

Posi-traction means 'positive', which is different. My plain old whatever Dodge uses is LSD, but they turn opposite directions. Dunno' about Auburn though.

Not sure on the 94's, but the newer models have an options sticker in the glove box that lists the diff gear ratio and if it's LSD.

911mike has explained it correctly. The "plain old whatever Dodge uses" is an open rear, The LSD is optional.

Sephiroth, If your wheels spins in opposite directions then, you don't have LSD on either truck.

The car manufacturers used different names for the same thing.
Posi-traction
Sure-grip
What-ever they want to call it, if it uses clutches or cones to TRANSFER power it is an L.S.D.-- Limited Slip Differential.

Open
L.S.D.
Locker
Spool
That is your choices for a rearend.

If that's the case, them DC owes me some cash on the '92 because it was ordered with LSD. Now I had my tranny in park when I tested this. Should it have been in neutral? Next time I jack up the rear I'll test it again in both park and neutral to see what happens.
