Subject: Missing Vaccuum Line?
IP: Logged

Message:
Okay,

So I have a 98 Dakot with a 5.2 V8. The other day I was looking at the motor and on the passenger side of the intake there are two metal tubes coming out. The top one has a vaccuum line connected to it while the one directly below it is left open. No rubber line to be seen at all. If I plug it up with my finger the idle drops slightly? Is there supposed to be something connected to this thing?

Thanx,

Kurt

Ya I thing there is a line that goes there. I have seen my mechanic take a similar hose off my Ford while he tunes it and sets the idle then he put the damn thing on and it slows the idle slightly. You might want to look at the schematic for the smog lines and you might see it there. How long have you owned the thing???
There might have deen a y there with anoth hose going to that fitting, not really sure. If I had to guess, someone took it off thinking it would help performance.

another thing you can do is when you get it smogged they will point it out and not pass you till it is back on the motor. Here in california they are real particular about it.
If you have one friend who is a REAL mechanic let him look at it.

I have no smog here so I'm not too worried. Unfotunately I have no Vaccuum schematics. I have owned it for 6 months. Will it hut anything I plug it? I just don't want it to be some pressure relief for the manifold or something

just put a cap over it... not all the vacuum ports are used. In fact, some manifolds have more ports than others.

i have a 95 model manifold that has 5 ports, a 98 that has 3 ports and a 99 that has 2.

just depends on what batch you got.
