Subject: Belly pan Gasket Blown??
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guys I took my truck to the dealer and they f-ed me over. Anyways I checked my manifold and there is a sheen of oil in it. I scraped some out and it was brown and seemed like oil to me. My truck is running like crap also smokes everynow and then after start up sometimes doesnt smoke until I drive off but most of the time its after start up.

Dealer says there is nothing wrong with it and that its supposed to use a quart of oil every 750 miles. Says this is normal for magnum engines over 50,000 miles, I have 59K. I dont really wanna take it to another dealer and pay 75 bucks again to tell me there is nothing wrong with it when there is an obvious problem. Just looking for any suggestions before I replace the gasket myself.

Thanks guys

That is how I *JUST* checked mine for a leaking belly-gasket not two days ago. You pull the air-hose off of the two-barrel, opent he two-barrel wide-open (with the engine off of course!), and shine a light down into the engine. If you see an oil-slick, it could very well be the belly-gasket. Good luck with the repairs, if it is.

I don't know if I ever posted my reply, but after letting the truck sit over-night, my oil-level was full. I guess that back-flow protection on the filter keeps a little in the top half of the engine.

Don't need to change mine, it's good. I idle at 400rpm, not 4000. Heck at 4000rpm I am doing close to 100mph, if not already!

DrewzR/T, here's the Speed Tweaks tech tip for repairing belly pan gaskets.

If you're using Netscape, you might have to click [File]>[Save Page As] and then save the page to view with Adobe Acrobat reader. Good luck!
