Neat trucks! I have #230 and have owned it since 1990. It now has 135,000 miles on it. The Shelby Dakota used the standard TBI 318 motor fitted with electric fans that make quite a noise at idle. The only tranny is the A500 OD. These trannys are marginal with the 318 but can built to take more torque. Some unique items to the Shelby are the light bar, leather steering wheel, stripe package, interior upholstery, and Shelby wheels. They came in two colors red and white. Mine is red, my brother had one of the rarer white ones. Performance in stock form was low 16's in the quartermile, but feels a lot stronger at low rpm.
My Shelby has been modified with the MP Shelby kit that includes a bigger tb, hipo ecm, and Flowmaster muffler. The Flowmaster has been replaced with true duals and Magnum exhaust manifolds. I added a rear sway bar and Eibach springs for a lower, better handling truck. The heads were ported, milled, and larger exhaust valves installed, along with a Hughes Engines cam, roller timing chain, and springs. On my G-tech I run consitent 14.70's in street trim. If I could ever find a source to remove the rpm and top speed limiter on the ecm I'm sure low 14's are easy and I still get 17 mpg on the highway. If I can give you any other info drop me a line.
