Subject: Possible Oil Leak...
IP: Logged

Message:
Alright, as said before, I have a '95 CC 4x4 5.2L. I went down today to check my fluids and such as normal. Well, after running and checking tranny, I shut it off and let it sit for five minutes or so. Everything was fine but the oil level was a tad lower than last time, so I pull off my air-filter/Tornado housing and shine a light down into the two-barrel to make sure no oil is built-up in there.

Now when I opened the throttle (engine off), a little bit of gray/white smoke blew out. It didn't smell like oil was burning, and down inside the engine looked a nice light gold or copper color. It is bright outside right now so I couldn't be sure, but it may have been damp. However, I saw no oil puddles or anything. Is it normal for it to be slightly damp down in there?

After that, I replaced the air-filter, Tornado, and housing. However, I got curious and started looking at the front intake beside the radiator. That tiny rectangular intake-port was not only small, but something covered it (to keep bugs out I guess) about 1/2" in front of it. I got to looking, and found out I could remove the long ribbed section that runs from the back of that port to the side of the air-filter housing. I did so and fired up the truck. The dang thing seems to tach higher, faster now! Is there any harm in leaving this elbow-type tube off, as long as I don't go four-wheeling and splash mud up into the housing? I am about to go grocery-shopping and fully intend to see if the higher air-flow makes any difference.

Also, does anybody know if there is an 'open-housing' made for my model truck? I'm talking about the type of housing that sits on the two-barrel like mine does, but fully exposes the air-filter all the way around? If so, what do i do with the hose comming from the crank-case breather-filter? Thanks for the input!

Yep, after driving around yesterday and parking it for the night, I came to find I had somehow lost some oil! Thing is, there are NO puddles where I park my truck, and my truck doesn't burn any oil. Where the heck is the oil going?! The only thing I can come up with is that the K&N oil-filter I use is keeping a good portion of the oil in the upper half of the block with that back-flow protection seal. If that's not it, I am totally stumped. There is no excess oil around the oil-pan under the truck, and no visible leaks anywhere up top or down low.
