I have a 97 5.2 auto CC 4x4 and I just had a new tranny put in 7k miles ago...and just recently when I shut off my truck and get out after driving around town I get a whiff (sp?) of something hot...the tranny fluid is still red and still smells normal...if anyone has any ideas it would be very helpful...any possibilities that it's the differentials front or rear? or could it just be a brake caliper not releasing all the way? who knows...any input would be great!

Could be paint that the rebuilder used on the trans itself or the convertor? Just a thought. Take it back, see what they say...

I have the same thing happen when my 91 Spirit 4 speed rebuilt it did the same thing. It is just the gaskets setting in and all the parts are new so some of the gunk from the factory gets out and burns up. Nothing to worry about buddy. Oh and by the way...i sold my spirit before basic (Air Force) and now own a 99 w/ a 318 4X4 and a few mods
