I'll try to help you out.

It sounds as if the engine is running super lean, that is, not getting enough air (as you've already observed).

The best thing I can tell you at present, is to go back and check all your truck's vacuum lines. Make sure that you did not accidentally plug the wrong line in to the wrong fitting (a common problem).

Another thing: Is your coolant temperature really high? Maybe you have an air bubble behind the t-stat, insulating its bulb from the engine coolant.
That would explain your vavle covers being hot to the touch (you mentioned this on your other post).

thanks for the information Eli. Ill try that. let me ask something eles. would a punched out cat converter have any thing to do with that ya suppose it would be loosing compresion.thanks mechanic comments will help

If you are running "super lean" you already have way to much air, rich is the condition where you need more air.

If you have access to a service manual you need to revisit the vaccum hose routing, something is connected wrong.
