Fried my first trans finally after 212K. Well past dew as most would say. My problem is that I'm being told that the dakota A518's where one offs in 92 & 93. I guess my question is why wont an A518 from a full size ram or newer dakota work?
I'd be happy to rebuild mine but the case ruptured.

Nothing else fits. Only 92-3 v-8 dakota 4x4 A518's will fit suposedly. Does anyone know why or if this is even true? I realize that there may be slight diferences, but dodge couldn't have been foolish enough to have made that many changes between modles.

Chrysler has made slight production variations on their transmissions for certain modles to accomodate the vehicle. What your problem is that either your flywheel/ torque converter won't line up or your transmission gear shaft is too big or small for the transmission. Your only uption may be a custom transmission swap or doing a guts swap to get what you want, not an easy thing to do.
